Ex Pro surfer turned chef, Matthew Hoar heads up the small team of Nathan Adams and Morgan Anderson in the Whale kitchen. All grew up in the area and are living the quintessential south coast life. A healthy dose of surfing, fishing, bush riding and family time with a passion for cooking and work to compliment it.
Their love of nature and the appreciation of the seasons informs the dynamic and ever changing menu, featuring seasonal local produce, foraged foods from the beach and bush and fresh goodies from home gardens, including our own whale garden.

Host, Matthew Devesons passion for food and wine is evident in the extensive wine list, one of the most comprehensive on the coast featuring fine Australian wines and the odd import.
There is also a large bar selection, from artisan gins to aged cognacs. The restaurant also has two beers on tap and many by the bottle. There is always a weekly cocktail, either on old classic or a bespoke mix using local botanicals and ingredients.
Open Tuesday to Saturday from 6pm. Closed Sunday, Monday & most public holidays.
We can also close for special events so please be sure to call if you would like to make a special booking.
The Whale Garden
The Whale Garden was established out of our desire to provide our customers with fresh local fare. The garden grows some of the restaurants herbs and small yields of vegetables. The kitchen is also involved in the garden and you will find them there most Thursday afternoons when the growing season is upon us.
Events at the Whale
The restaurant periodically holds special events to spice things up a bit. From formal degustation wine dinners to more casual music nights featuring some great Australian talent.
